But I understand that where you live the police must go in pairs, and they can't afford two of 'em . .

Our local rag is always desperate for news, any slight hint of news. There was a local man on the Paris-Cairo flight that went down. The local paper headlined something like "Second Tragedy Strikes", there was somebody on the Lokerbie plane around 28 years ago. When I lived in London the local rag was great, just loads of muggings, stabbings, robberies, road rage incidents, rapes, you name it. All boring nice stuff down here. Quite frequently somebody gets busted for growing illegal weeds !
