Gave my Omega it's first proper run last night since I have owned it, 550 miles from NE Scotland to Southwest England. And she didn't miss a beat, long journies is what these motors are really  made for.

After months of feeling depressed and my wallet being constantly molested of its contents for fuel, we went on a break a couple of weeks ago, long distances, straight lines, easily cracked 40mpg, and just cruised merrily on the motorways. The car felt nice at 'home'

Yup, 900 miles in a (admittedly quite long) day from here to the South of France is a breeze. Got out feeling refreshed, unlike some of my convoy buddies who were starting to get tetchy after 3 or 4 hundred miles.

I did 250 miles up and down the hills of North Yorkshire in my underpowered astra on Monday. I was fickin knackered.
I know how a truck driver feels because if someone slows down in front of you on a hill, you have to rev the bollicks out of it in every gear to get back up to speed.

You can't get my flavour of astra with a slush box, it wouldn't cope (the engine, not the box). Every time I do a long trip, I swear I'm going to get something with a bit more poke. But then I realise that I spend 98% of my time footling round town which is what it likes, so .......I don't.
It's ok on the motorway too, so I'll just avoid North Yorkshire.

Surely not, it cant be worse than my astra x17dtl, going uphill was a lesson in patiance especially if the MIL illuminates

Have to say that was a joy on the holiday, too. Yorks/Lancs border countryside driving, with a nice big V6, going up hills required no apparent extra revs, there's a short hill coming home from work, too, and again, the car doesn't notice it.

Always nice to be able to pull away from Olly in his chavved up Fiesta, uphill, too. Yes, young fellow, have we now learned the difference between power and torque?

You can't beat a big motor  for long distance cruising, even my V8 does over 30mpg on a long run & most of all it's enjoyable 😉😉😉
