Thrust washer replacement with Sonnax.
« on: 12 August 2016, 15:54:43 »

Now I have the AR35 off the car and in bits, I find I am fortunate in that there is no scoring on the thrust washer bearing surface, so I guess I spotted the broken one fairly soon after its demise. The new Sonnax washer comes with three shims, which I am assuming are used to get the correct end float. However how is measurement of that achieved? :-\ :-\ :-\

They're the kiddies. :y Someone must have replaced a thrust washer without them. Any suggestions? Otherwise I'll just put it back together with the new washer, and hope for the best. :y

Just read it,   ???, I understood till the end-float, am guessing that means how much the shaft moves, just measure what's left of the old plastic one, and make the sonax the same thickness.. Not accurate but acceptable, guessing the plastic GM doesn't use shims?.

if the pump face is undamaged, just fit the sonnax washer without shims,it will be fine.

Thanks, I anticipated I would have to do that. I would have measured the old one, but it was discarded some weeks ago, however in my memory it was slightly slimmer, so will use the Sonnax without the shims. :y

PS Welcome back! :y
