AR25 Sump Gasket Change
« on: 17 August 2016, 09:45:31 »

I am on the verge of doing the sump gaskets, filter and fluid change on the AR25 in my car.  Got the gaskets and filter, plus 6 litres of Dexron III ATF ready.

Is 6 litres of ATF going to be enough?  I'm going to be replacing the radiator at the same time, so that will take car of any ATF remaining in there.  I realise that there will be some old ATF remaining in the torque convertor, so wasn't sure if I needed any more at this stage.

When changing the sump gaskets, do I use any additional sealant with them or just the gaskets on their own?  I've never had the sumps off an AR25 before.  I had read somewhere that a smear of vaseline on the gaskets does the trick, anyone used that before?

I'd say 6 litres is marginal. Best to have 8 litres or so to hand to top up after a a partial change.

I would probably only smear the gaskets with ATF on refitting. Any other kind of mineral grease might contaminate the friction surfaces in the gearbox resulting in it failing.

Isn't there a how to in the helpful maintenance section ;).

Both sumps off, and blow thro the cooler pipes, takes about 8ltrs, so best buy 10, then you can also change the power steering fluid too. :Y, that takes about a 1ltr.

Hi Craig,

These are the capacities taken from the Carlton manual and I would expect them to be similar on the Omega as it`s basically the same box.

Capacities are drain and refill   2.6 litres
After removing the large sump  4.7 litres
From dry                               6.4 litres
