56 is the offical figure !! but at 120 i get 19 mpg which aint bad !! 8-)

As has been said 56 is the "official" best speed for economy -- remember all the advice during the petrol shortages a few decades ago ?

However, that's a cruising speed -- just as important is how fast you get to it and how often you hit the anchors.

Accelerate smoothly ( leaving rubber on the tyres and not on the road) Keep an eye on the road well ahead and decelerate just as smoothly -- imagine you have an apple perched on the bonnet and want to keep it there.

I am sure all that is granny sucking eggs stuff -- but there it is

Did Gloucester to Slough and back yesterday in my 2.5 V6, approx 198 miles.Set cruise at 60 where practicable and got 39 mpg on the computer. Well pleased with that.
