From what I've read it's electric, basically a hair dryer type thing against the heater matrix, this provides heat until the engine coolant can provide the required amount.

But why link to a fault, I've already read up on it. But nice to know any feature I mention on my car will have thread on a faulty version posted up.

Perhaps just to drive in another point about how something fails on VAG?  :-\

Nothing wrong with mine and looking at that guide I would never bother fixing it  ;D

I thought it was actually rather informative as it gives insight into what/where/how ;)

And credit where it's due, at least you won't have to remove the whole dash to get at it...
