Heard about it on the wireless today. Even Chris Moyles almost took it seriously. Never been on Weston pier but sympathies nonetheless.
Palace pier in Btn obviously still going but i remember as a kid, 9 or 10 Btn & Hove council offered West Pier for £1 but you had to have the resourses to put it right. Needless to say it's still dropping away slowly. :(

Oh I am sorry. All those memories now up in smoke :o

Remember the mud flats though, it used to squelch up though your toes as you walked, and did'nt smell too good either :)

Is a shame about the piers, not only Weston super mare burning but a year or so back Southend pier caught fire.Hasting pier has collapsed in part,i believe, and Bogner pier is in dire need of repairStopped the birdman contest there.
As for the west pier, i belive the lottery gave some money for essential repair, then it caught fire. Most ppl i know believe it to be arson. As of now there is going to be a monstrsity called the i360 built by the west pier,to help generate money to restore the pier.(Not holding my breath on this)

Well done that man who called the pier still standing the Palace Pier, rather than Brighton pier(nearly vomitted typing that).

Unfortunately there is very little of the West Pier to restore; it will require basically a complete new structure! :(

I hope they do restore it. It would be a shame for it to go the way the cliff lifts at Scarborough went.

varche

There is still one cliff lift at Scarborough! The other one is looking sorry for itself though.
