Cooker disconnecting ?
« on: 28 January 2017, 12:17:04 »

Someone has asked me about disconnecting her cooker and said they had a quote of £90 . Now the thing is its one of those connections that just push up turn and pull out . If it was me i would just unhook it but she's saying it has to be done by registered gas man  :-\ What you think  :-\

For our electric cooker they wanted an extra £49.95 to connect.

Did it myself in about 20 minutes.

Not difficult.

EMD, what you have been told is true, to the letter of the law, but with such a simple and safe procedure, what can go wrong? Just do it and don't tell anyone!  :-X

From memory it was simply the case of removing a couple of wires from a junction box and then replacing with the new wires.

Switch the electricity off first. :)

Might be wrong (check online) but I think disconnecting is fine. It's reconnecting that will land you with a massive fine. (or a blown up house and manslaughter charge).

There was me thinking it was an electric cooker.

To connect/reconnect a gas cooker is simplicity itself ........as described.

Should you wish to remove the cooker for cleaning etc and it is fitted with a bayonet type connector then you can 'unplug' the cooker from the bayonet connector and then 'plug' it back in when you are finished. You can do this if the cooker stays in the same house and is not a work place.
