Hi Andy,

I sent them a registered letter today to inform them to get their arse into gear :y (And to cover my arse, for when they kindly try and fine me for "not informing them of a change of keeper".

Believe me, it's in my best interests, as the b@stards are still charging me the tax each month, to date!

I cancel the DD every time  I sell a car . . .  that way they can't keep taking the tax each month.     Seems to me the system does not work to well  . . .  seller is relying on "Royal Fail" to deliver the sent off V5 to DVLA.  The only way the seller knows that it has been received is & when the confirmation "eventually" arrives back . Have had these arrive several weeks after car was sold  ::) ::)

Why wouldn't you cancel the direct debit when you sell it? Hell you can even sorn it online before the ink is dry on the V5...

Bought a vehicle

You must tax the vehicle before driving it, or declare that it’s off the road (a SORN). The tax isn’t transferred to you when you buy the vehicle.

The person you bought the vehicle from should post the log book (V5C) to DVLA to tell them that you’re the new keeper.

If you don’t receive a new log book within 6 weeks, you can register your vehicle yourself.
If the seller gives you the log book

Fill in Section 6 of the log book with your name and address, then post it to DVLA.

Quote
DVLA aims to send out a new V5C to you within 2 to 4 weeks of getting the old V5C from the seller.

If you don’t get it within 4 weeks:

complete form V62 - ‘Application for a vehicle registration certificate’
send it to DVLA with the V5C/2 given to you by the seller - if you don’t send in the V5C/2, you’ll have to pay a fee

Not that this will help, I sent my driveing license off a 3-4 weeks ago as proof of ID for an upgrade to drive heavy vans etc as (I'm currently limited to 3 tones) and it's not back yet.
They were quick enough sending it back with a problem but now it's disappeared by the look of it with no update.
I've emailed them and look forward to reading there excuses.

I have previously bought a car with only the green slip, current MoT and a photocopy of the V5 showing a private plate...

Had to drive it home, so straight to the nearest post office and all it took was a V62, the dd mandate and job done.

Chassis number matched the old V5 and the reg on the MoT matched the green slip, so everything corroberated 8)

Had to resubmit the V62 5 weeks later because the bloody Post Office I went to lost it though ::)

Positive result today :y the new V5C just dropped through the letter box.

I don't know what was in James' letter but it appears to have had the desired result  :)

So is that the end of the matter? Will james get 2 months tax refunded? Will they try to fine me for not managing to declare SORN?  ::)

The letter was along the lines of, "OI, I told you I no longer own this car, and I sent you the V5, so don't you dare try and fine me for not telling you. PS why are you still taking my cash for the tax" ;D
