As I have failed to sell the mig, I have decided to fix it.

I look at it every morning and I dont want to scrap its too good and everything works.

what are my options when it comes to fitting the propper lump in (X25XE)?

I can get another xev quite easily and I will if its not worth the swap

Sounds like a perfect recipient for an LET swap to me.

I would love an let but want to keep the slushbox, doesnt the turbo need special placement because of the strut?

Might need a custom down pipe, but should fit comfortably 

Keep the slush box, and don't tune it and it should be fine, if the box goes bang, then replace with an AR35

Wiring won't be straightforward, and will need to change the clocks. Let conversion could be done without removing the block

Well if its going to be fannying about Im gonna stick with the xev, Maybe in the future I'll LET it but I need it back sort of asap

I have found 3 bolt wishbones so If mine are the same it will be the easiest five ever

What is wroing with your engine (besides the lack of pistons)? Is it broken?

XEV is a good engine, quite reliable, easy and cheap to maintain, everything is really accessable, not much complicated parts and assemlies on it. But it lacks both torque and power.

LET is a great engine, but they are awfully expensive, hard to find, and usually very abused. Not really a viable option if you are aiming at 200is BHP, only if you are aiming at far more (as LET can cope with much more HP).

Now, what about getting some more power from good-old reliable and cheap to run XEV? Lets say:
 - a XEV engine in a good shape (and there are plenty of them available, for cheap)
 - eaton supercharger of a Mercedes C kompressor from scrappers (should be way below 500€)
 - run it 0,3-0,5 bar with intercooler (ideally, air-to-water cooler, placed between intake and supercharger)
 - remap (althogh simtek might be able to cope with additional airflow, eventually with higher fuel pressure)

I belive that with this you should see more power and torque than X25XE, and it would be very driveable, especially around town.
X20XEV internals are, hear-say, good for up to 0.5 bar boost, and some 200BHP. 
I've seen several conversions like this (mostly done in russia, ukraina, poland), and it seems quite powerfull.

This is, from what I've managed to understand, some 0.4 bar and standard ECU (no remap).

My xev is slightly broken, the exhaust studs have sheared and no one bar an old friend will fix it (he is in dover)

I bought a cylinder head which I couldnt return and the machine shop wouldnt work on it because there where 2 studs broken

so Im going to but a complete xev from a vectra b so I have some spare parts also and have been assured the exhaust manifold is still intact

Well I never went back to collect it since I couldnt return it, I didnt want to be out of pocket twice since they stripped it down and cleaned it only to tell me that

Is the only difference between the fwd lump the threaded engine mounts on the cambelt side?

Right I have just bought an xev from a Vectra sri 140

Now just need to get wishbones, cam belt and water pump
