Get it on a code reader, sometimes catching these sort of oddities early might prevent the inconvenience of a breakdown.

  the trouble I find with putting it on a code reader local to me is, I more than likely be non the wiser. there is a good lad in wakefield that I know is knowledgeable an hour away.

You should be able to buy a generic code reader for the same cost as one trip to a garage.

Finding a code reader that can talk to Diesels is more problematic than finding one that works with petrol engines so you do need to do some homework first.....

  my problem is I wouldn't know which one to buy.
