Mrs V will be back in UK soon.

We are going back to basics on our pesky car hunt. So the brief is for her to take the MIL and wheelchair and lookforsomething she can get in, enough space for wheelchair, dog, groceries and large cool box. Having found something that fits, i will see if they are any good to drive etc on internet reviews. Then we can find some for sale in Spain and view a shortlist.

So any suggestions of a place  not too far from Leicester with a large selection of vehicles to just test for suitability? My Hot favourites at moment are Passat or Mondeo estate.

Good question. My choice would be petrol as diesel is dirty and will be taxed to death and prevented from entering cities etc (as per earlier threads) however as 9 out of 10 vehicles here are diesel then practicalities rule. Last time I looked there were no auto Mondeo estates for sale within 4 hours drive each way and only 4 auto Passat estates within 4 hour each way drive. Just looked now and no auto petrol Mondeos and Passats within price , mileage and age ranges for sale in Spain. Diesel it is...

You can see why we need to know we can get in it and all our stuff before actually going to view a car here.

Buying a car in Spain sounds like a nightmare!  :(

My Uncle used to keep an old British Mondeo at his house near Javea and drive it back every year for it's MOT, as he reckoned it was cheaper and easier!  :-\  ::)

Would have suggested a people carrier type thing-Grand C-Max has sliding rear doors which might help getting MiL in/out-but I doubt whether they would have the boot space[even with the rear most seats folded]to house wheelchair, groceries, dog and coolbox all atsame time.

You could visit a Motorpoint Car Supermarket - there are several around the UK; try different vehicles from a variety of manufacturers for suitability, and then do your homework with car reviews etc and the best place to buy. Saves trapzing round dealerships /garages looking at different makes.

In would also be considering MPV/softroader as there are a bit higher so much easier to get in/out of.

Oh and be a bit wary at Avilable car as the vehicle quality is far from the best

Motorpoint tend to specialise in newer vehicles than the OP is looking for - although do have a good range available. Also CarGiant, although they only have one (massive) branch in west London.

If I understand correctly, they are coming from Spain for a day or two to try as many different cars as possible for size/space/ease of access etc before returning to Spain with a short list of cars to look out for there :y

The salesman will probably cop the arse once he realises that you're not actually buying here, but shit happens  ::)

It was more to point out that with Available Car, there not good examples which may taint the 'experience'
