Been in one of those Ford Edges today[not my kind of car and apparently shedding value like there's no tomorrow]Anyway got in, started,into drive,handbrake off and away we went all fine so far.Got to destination put it in park and engine cut before I could even put handbrake on let alone press the stop button!! I know we're all supposed to be responsible tree huggers saving the fluffy polar bears these days but even so it seems to me a bit sudden for that stop/start business to kick in.

I had an Edge in the US last year (not sure what they call it - maybe the same). I had no problem with the start stop on that in normal use. The problem I had was that you pull up, put it in P, unbelt, go to get out and it bloody bongs at you because it's not been switched off! 

If it's smart enough to know I've stopped, why doesn't it turn itself off when I get out?!

I understand the principals behind stop/start,it's just that it seemed a bit abrupt at stopping the engine as soon as the gear selector hit park and before I'd even had chance to let go of selector never mind set the parking brake or press the off button.

And if you seen a polar bear nearby the last thing you would want is an engine turning off!

If it's smart enough to know I've stopped, why doesn't it turn itself off when I get out?!

I'd be dead chuffed if mine turned the ignition and therefore the radio off every time the stop start kicked in...
