Mike,

If getting a PAYG USB dongle modem, it needs to be topped up with credit, same as a phone.  There is a bit of a sneaky in the 3 T&C's that if you want the topup to be used for the 1Gb/30 days data access, the £10 (or whatever it is) topup needs to be "converted" to a data only topup (they call it the Boradband Lite Add-On).  If not, it MAY be used as a standard PAYG topup which munches your credit at £1/Mb..this means that you get 100 times less internet.
You do it via the internet, or phone.  Info is on their website - look for Jargon Buster, then read "Add-Ons"..

If you're on your home wireless, it'll make no difference.  It will only connect to the 3 internet if you have the dongle plugged in...

OK Thanks, think I have the idea, just looked on http://www.three.co.uk/personal/products_services_/mobile_broadband_/payg.omp and it talks about that.
Is car phone wharehouse the best place or should I talk to 02 first as I have an 02 phone on annual renewable contract.
See what O2 have to offer, but don't forget to tell them what you can get from 3..and you want the same, but cheaper..!

We went into O2 first and they said they don't do PAYG broadband. They said it would be available in the next three months or so but could do a one month contract although on that the modem would be £100. Needless to say, we walked away.

As far as the credit is concerned, you just activate it online. The '3' website is always available using their dongle whether you have credit or not. If you go into a '3' shop, they can do a postcode search and tell you the signal strength in that area. You then have a three day opportunity to take it all back for a full refund if you don't like it.

All in all, we are now happy surfing campers.  8-)

I think only 3 and Orange do PAYG broadband (and possibly Virgin?) - not O2...so for Mike f is would have to be a contract add-on...whether it could be on-and-offable...not sure....depends how much they want, spread over how many months its needed?

I only want it for a couple of weeks and a few weekends a year so payg is good for me, whoever it is with. :y

Well went to Carphone Warehouse and found a very helpful young lady. She did area tests to look at coverage, 02  very poor in Ripon, T Mobile seemed to have a few blank area’s too close to where our Caravan is ‘3’ gave excellent coverage all over the area.

Decided not to go payg as all top ups only last a month, no carryover so would end up buying on a month anyway, going on contract £10.00 a month, upgradeable, and did not have to pay the £50.00 up front for the modem. :y

Shop said it could take up to 72 hours, it worked instantly, once downloaded and seems faster than our broadband, rural location
Will be going back to talk to them when out BT broadband contract is due, they can halve my overall internet / phone bill. :)

So I wil be able to oof on holiday, how sad is that, swmbo certainly thinks it is. ::) ::) ::)
