Bombardier vs Boeing
« on: 27 September 2017, 17:09:48 »

A fairly one-sided decision, given the amount of backhanders state aid Boeing has received. Bodes well for a balanced future trade deal with the US once we have Taken Back Control (TM).  ::)

Boeing can only come out this in a negative way.  A miscalculated manoeuvre me thinks.

It will be interesting see what/if any response comes from Brussels given that they seem very keen on Irish affairs at the moment!  ::)

UK-wise they'll be fine.

Their response to May was to say they heard and understood her concerns (translation: jog on) and to remind her of their commitment to the uk in their employment of XX people (translation: what you going to do about it).

We won't do anything meaningful as we need them more than they need us.

Office Junior May has protested to the US Government, has threatened that it may affect future UK military orders to Boeing and is assisting Bombardier with their appeal with the outcome being known in March 2018. :y But you have to get news from multiple different sources to know this, rather than reading what IMO is little more than a left-wing gossip sheet, which is so popular they can no longer afford to produce a print version. :-[ :-[ :-[

There have been subsidies/investments to Bombardier by the UK and Canadian governments and Boeing have been down this protest route before with Airbus with mixed results, where US subsidies tend to be in the form of new technology development grants. The irony is that Boeing has no competing model in the 150 passenger class. :D :D :D

The aircraft manufacturing market for civil and military aircraft is an odd one with much government support in all countries and a bit of a minefield where one country's subsidy is another country's development grant that often ends up as handbags at dawn. :o :o :o

I had read that about May, but hollow words imho. Everyone in the U.K. Has a hard on for manufacturing and she would never dare to be directly responsible for U.K. Job losses in that area. There was enough of a kick off when GKN let go a mere 230 jobs at their helicopter place in yeoville. And that's for a company most people have never heard of.

On the subject of news sources, these days I tend to go for Reuters, Bloomberg and the FT (make of that what you will), and BBC Rugby/Cricket. In my experience those 3 don't allow linking to a forum. So I googled. The top 2 results were the BBC and the Grauniad. Both of which I happen to know give several members on here palpitations. So I opted for number 3.  :y

I follow many news sources including the MSM BBC, Guardian, Bloomberg UK, Fail and for a limited amount the Telegraph where they are behind a paywall along with several European and US news sources (some limit number of articles per month behind a paywall) and a vast number of specialist publications and blogs, the latter especially by academics. The UK, US, Australian governments and the European OECD are all excellent sources of statistics. Google translate is invaluable for reading articles in languages other than English. :y :y :y
