Highway Code question...
« on: 13 August 2021, 14:58:53 »

M11 between Stansted and A11 has a mile long section that has a posted 'No overtaking' weight restriction of 7.5T.

Are coaches exempt?

Had a coach force its way out just as we passed the start of said restriction which was irksome. Although, in his limited defence he did indicate :D

I ask the question because I don't know the answer.

Found this:

It appears to be aimed primarily at HGV's but over 7.5t is over 7.5t. A coach will clearly top that so could/would be in breach of that.

If it was a National Express coach I'd let it out anyway, as once he's out in lane 2 he'll push people out of the way until he gets to around 90mph anyway.  ;D

That was how I interpreted it, which was why I was going to pass him. I may be a bit of a tit at times, but I am not a complete arsehole, so I had anticipated that he might pull out... (four cars ahead were a bit too bunched up so he went for the first available space aka my stopping distance) and grudgingly let him do so rather than plough into the side of the coach.

It was ;D busy waving out of the window when I flashed him and as I eventually passed him (as the restriction ended).

Well, they've apparently identified the coach and its driver, so he'll be having a 'chat' with his manager at some point...

Still none the wiser re the weight limit question beyond Alans' link.  :-\

Only just noticed this post. Have you got any evidence to back up that statement?  ;D

This post could be considered proof of life :-\

It would be fair to say that ploughing into the side of anything at motorway speeds will result in a few days in hospital, if not imminent death...
