Taiwan
« on: 26 January 2022, 10:11:49 »

The Chinese president has said that Taiwan will come back to the fold this year.

I wonder if he has colluded with Putin to time it simultaneously?  The timing with the Olympic games might be a minus or a plus.  I bet the Americans and Nato are running simulations day and night. Well one hopes they are!

The press don’t seem too bothered about all of the Russian fleets being on manoeuvres in both the Atlantic and Pacific. The Irish did complain about the live ammo firing but as it was 150 miles off the coast ( 200? From Cornwall) there isn’t anything illegal going on.

It hasn't happened yet. Scheduled to start Feb 3rd, and end Feb 8th. Yes it's provocative, but then so is sailing NATO warships, and flying recce planes into the Black Sea.

NATO are scheduled to hold similar exercises between Scotland and Iceland in March - involving 2 US carriers, plus HMS PoW and possibly an Italian carrier.

That would largely depend on what the live ammo was and  which way it was being fired...

Don't forget the US were able to fire live ammo at Iraq from the Med...  ::)

I feel sure that Taiwan was called Formosa when I was a boy.......although the geography books and maps were pretty old.

Perhaps it was a case for Taiwan formerly known as Formosa. It's almost 20 years since I left school so....... ::)

All of this sabre rattling must be costing a fortune.

It's coming time, the US don't spend close to $800bn a year to not have a good war now and again. Same with Russia, and no one wants to play at home, just think of the mess! The Ukraine is a nice away match for both sides.  :y

Hope Rods2 has his Anderson shelter up!

If you step back a bit and think, it really is obscene how much money the world spends on “ defence” . Is the US spending about 3,000 dollars a head each year?  Imagine how much further mankind could have progressed if that money had been better spent ( not withstanding the civilian benefits from inventions made by warmongering)

It would be interesting to have had Rods2 input on this subject. I wonder how he is?
