We had an interesting eating experience last month in Spain. We polled up at a rural hotel and the owner said I will book you in to a restaurant in next village.

When we arrived it looked like any hock village cafe bar. Owner came over and said what do you fancy? Is there a menu.?  No. What do you fancy? Fish, meat? We settled fpr beef.  Bottle of wine which came with a very nice tapas ( free) . Dessert was delicious too. No prices! It was one of the nicest meals we had for ages. 84 euros for two.  We think he was a Michelin star type chef that had down sized for an easy life.

Theres a place in France called La Lauzetane (possibly spelt wrong...) - magnificent, outnin the mountains. Owner just does a fixed menu every day, will accommodate you if you have allergies etc but otherwise "tomight its fish" or whatever.

I love it, and it must be better than having mounds of unused food sitting about every night just in case.
Just remember that the French have a strange inability to be able to do anything which requires any kind of effort whatsover.  French steak is worse than army boot leather.  Well, if they cook it at all, that is ;D

Fixed.  :y

I like France and the French. Just avoid Paris and Calais, and they are kind, welcoming people :y. But can't cook steak.

Better than virtually any pub Sunday Lunch IMHO, by some margin. Shame the one in Banburyshire closed to become a Miller & Carter :(
