I recently bought a quad bike for my son in green but the colour is slightly faded on certain area's so i was considering trying to spray the plastic fenders a different colour!!is this an easy job and what would i need to do spray primer on first??what colour primer??grey/white??what would be the routine to follow please :)any ideas

heres some info

..clean the areas with a sanding paper (800,1200 grid) that you will paint..(no old paint must be leftfor best results)

.. ask the paint  shop which primer suits your application (honestly dont know the color and models there) (here is white-smoke color)

..spray 2 layers of primer (wait between layers to dry)

..after the primer dried completely sand the primer with 1200,1500 grid

..apply 2-3 layers of paint and 2-3 layers of lack..(if metallic)

sorry to intrude, its just i have a boot spoiler to spray for my corsa, will that need 2-3 coats of laquer too even though it'll be non-metallic?

You don't have to sand the paint between coats, give it a couple of colour coats & if you are not happy with it flat the paint & polish it with G3 compound or similar. If its a base coat it will need a clear coat to give it a deep shine & protect the finish

its the kind of plastic that has been made green and not painted ;)so it won't need sanding will it??? as there is no paint on it

just primer it and then paint? :-/

for non metallic paint seperate laquer not used..And it has a different mixture .. :-/

the general purpose of sanding is :
 micro and fine scratches make extra holding surface for paint layer

so event its clear plastic you need sanding ..Otherwise paint in time will come out..

Hycote acrylic primer works very well on plastic and they make halfords primer which may be easier to get hold of.
As Cem says sand first as paint doesn't stick well to shiny plastic.

ask for paint with plasticiser in it,otherwise it will crack and flake off after a while.

for plastic, primer must be epoxy type..Now I find it..
