On a well used slapper even the widest bore and longest stroke may not be enough to touch the sides. :)

Anyway, my six pot Triumph 2500S had a long stroke and the origins of that engine probably date back to the early fifties.

She would get breathless above 4500 RPM so Rae may have a point.

It is, although burn time seems to be the limiting factor and a long stroke will allow more burn time but increase piston travel.
