Many browsers implement power saving on tabs that aren't in the foreground - you could be falling foul of that.

(the power saving will be to limit cpu/network activity for that tab, which will likely cause stuttering or video pausing)

Could be the encoding used, or more likely the amount of tracking and/or ads causing the CPU to use more power

Well......  Putting my tinfoil helmet on, it started happening as the election campaign got under way.

It could simply be that they're having to sell every last spare byte to advertisers to stay afloat.

It says something when a stall in Swansea Market advertises. But then, it's still better than funeral plans and incontinence pads !
