Pontins
« on: 02 September 2024, 17:25:42 »

Just been reading that Pontins have had to apologise for discriminating against Irish travellers by refusing bookings, based on a list of common names. I can think of another reason why they're not wanted at their resorts.  :)

Don't know where you read that, Ron, but there was an article in the Liverpool Echo last year about the Pontins at Ainsdale. These articles resurface now and again because the news site or whatever has a slow news day.

Read it on the BBC news website and it was dated as yesterday, 2nd Sept. The article did say that the apology was for historical discrimination between 2013 to 2018.

Perhaps they would feel more welcome if they went to Billing Aquadrome? 8)

Twenty years ago we turned up at a campsite at Marciac with our Omega and long caravan.

Out comes the owner “ sorry no gipsies “ , oh you arent gipsy in you come. Sorry had a lot of problems . One turns up and then in the night the rest arrive with transits and huge caravans.

About two hours later a bmw and long caravan turned up and was let in. Next morning ……….half a dozen transits and their caravans….. out came the road rollers , washing machines and urchins.

Has it dried out yet, last time I drove past it it was a long way under water, although that was a couple of months back...

More that it has a terrible, well deserved, reputation for property being stolen.
