Hello all

Daughter's Astra J have still a minor coolant leak behind the thermostat housing. Housing is a plastic part screwed to cylinder head. The thermostat with its "cover" is screwed to this housing. I do not know the right terms for these parts but if you look at the fig. below you can see red arrow showing to small red drop in rear part of this housing. Coolant seem to come behind the electric connector. Connector is locked fom top side with iron clip which I can remove. I guess the connector is connected to temp. sensor. I am afraid that the sensor is built in to housing so I have to replace the whole part?

Any tips/experience or do we have to wait that 'dave the builder' will pop in...

Pull the clip and sensor should pull out, there will be an O ring seal.

It will be part of the new sensor. But...

It may be weeping because the housing has cracked.

Thanks DG, actually what you said was what I was afraid of. Let's see, car needed tomorrow so I did not do anything, spare part I ordered (original GM) comes on Tuesday. Then I know. If whole housing needed perhaps middle price part from Autodoc will fulfil or what do you recommend?

I would be selective on supplier. And replace the lot.

If one part is failing, the rest won't be far behind.

Original spare installed, housing (plastic) seemed ok at least when cold, no leaks after short trip, let's see in long term.
