Lifting the suspension
« on: 11 February 2025, 18:53:40 »

Hi all,
I need to stiffen and lift the suspension of my Omega (usually travel with boot and trailer overloaded). Currently standard front suspension and Sumospring rubber blocks on rear coils.
In a few weeks I will install some HD Caravan rear coils and swap the Sumosprigs to the front.
Sorry, no caliper for measuring new coils' wire diameter.
When installing them I will post before and after height .

I have measured today wire diameter. 15.5 mm standard and 17.5 mm Caravan HD ones. Length is 280 mm, same as standard ones, but they should't sag as much as original ones under car's own weight and cargo.

It’s a shame that there aren’t the options available today that were available a few years back.  Those that towed caravans without the benefit of factory self levelling had the option of fitting after market Kilen HD springs and Monroe Ride Levellers to keep it level under load. Sadly these options have also now been discontinued I believe.

wow .it sounds like you are carrying some serious weight there . looking at those springs they should certainly lift/stiffen up the rear so long as they dont make it too hard and unpleasant unladen ?   but loaded up may well feel ok . you may not need the assisters on the front ?  you will soon see

Sure, I have the Monroe System installed some years ago. It is a good solution.

Actually I bought those, are they not available anymore? I bought only Monroe kit to get hoses, pressure meter etc. I try to find Monroe kit number.

Today I have swapped the helper rubbers to the front. It was my brother who bought and installed them them at rear axle a few years ago. I always thought that they were SumoSprings, but they are actually Grayston brand, GE15 model.
After rubber removal my rear axle has maintained the same height (sure they will sag after a few miles). Front has raised 20mm (about 3/4").
I will try to find some time this weekend for installing the reinforced rear coils.

Job done! Very useful the maintenance guide  about coils by Marks DTM Calib and tidla.
After some road miles including bumps and elk test, everything has settled down. Front 20 mm lift has vanished and rear 50mm lift has been reduced to just 20mm over rubber blocks or 40mm over sagged standard springs.
Really sweet and nice suspension now. No, you don't tell that those are HD springs. No loss in passenger comfort.
Once the winter is over I will restart some masonry works at the inlaws farmhouse. That will show how heavy cargo on boot and trailer are handled by the new suspension setup.

In my opinion, the ride height at the rear looks too high. I don't know how much towing with heavy loads you do, but whilst using it solo, in my opinion, it is too high. I would have to make more enquiries for an alternative spring  suitable for towing and giving the correct ride height solo.
