Galaxy TDCi Engine malfunction - P244C DPF related
« on: 10 April 2025, 15:49:21 »

To thank me for giving it a full service and timing belt change, the Galaxy has decided to give me an engine malfunction warning to deal with.  ::)

Having hooked up the scanner I am getting a number of CANBUS communication errors which I think are unrelated and likely due to failing solder joints in the dash cluster unit. The reason I think unrelated is they come back immediately after being cleared, but it takes 5-10mins of running before the engine malfunction comes back.

The error relates to Exhaust temp too low for DPF regen. I have checked all temp sensors on the exhaust and they seem to be giving good readings (3 all give broadly consistent, plausible values that do change depending on engine idle speed.). My next thing to look at is the fuel vaporiser unit, this is a separate glow plug and nozzle that squirts diesel on to the DPF to increase combustion temps and apparently is a common failure point. I've checked the fuses that go to both the glow plug and the separate fuel pump that runs the nozzle, both seem fine.

Other relevant data: DPF soot content is 56% capacity closed loop, 70% capacity open loop. I am taking this as a positive, many of the online

Questions for the group:

- Have I missed anything obvious I should be looking at?
- What is the difference between the two DPF soot values?

All help and advice gratefully received as I have limited experience with DPF cars.  :y

That injector is very prone to clogging, hence the low exhaust temps, I'd be looking there first

Just to ressurect this, finally got the replacement part on hand so had a run at the DPF injector this afternoon. Hot too bad to get off, just had to get it glowing hot first  ;D.

Once off it was apparent that the nozzle was largely (although not completely) blocked. So cleared that out using a blow torch and an air line  :o. I'm yet to refit it as it was too hot to touch and I wanted a beer. So reassembly will be first thing in the morning, followed by a good run out.
