As kevin says .. and if you wish to read the full story ...

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/consumer/article.html?in_article_id=432978&in_page_id=5

The most important table is the one right at the bottom which shows both old and new bands

remember .. band G . the past 2006 bit NO LONGER EXISTS so can't be quoted ... bands L & M DO EXIST on all cars registered from March 2001

Thanks the link followed to this link

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/Default.aspx?deriv=20782

which seems to say it will ramp up over two years.
It's a load of rubbish if I bought an old vehicle giving out just as much pollution if not much more I would be taxed less than half what I will pay. Oh to have the same car but a month older it's hardly fair!

Thanks for all the advice everyone is as I suspected, I will look at cashing in my tax disc feb and buying a 12 month at old rate if I'm able.
With Lpg what are the tax costs and is it really worth it on a 120k mile old car?

Cashing in the Tax disc is the best way to delay the inevitable rises... But the money's better in your pocket than the government's!! >:( >:(

As for LPG. As Kevin said, there are quite a few of us who have done it and if you are willing to fit it yourself you should get your money back within about 8-10k miles without any real effort. As for age, mine's a 1999 with about 125k on the clock and I didn't think twice about it! The engine's barely run in :y :y :y

I really hope EVERYONE does this too. With luck, the DVLA will grind to a halt with the extra paperwork and thereafter have a huge peak in the numbers of renewals to cope with on each anniversary.  >:( It'll serve them right.
