The Govt. demanded recently that Apple give them a back door into icloud (possibly connected to the Britcard thing ?) Apple refused and say they will never comply.
Connected to terrorists and criminals, initially. But these things have a habit of expanding and morphing into something much bigger.

Apple are probably in on it.
I think most people know I hate Apple with a vengeance*, but they are quite good at fighting off such stupidity, so methinks you are talking crap ;)

*despite having an iPhone, iPad, iPod, Macbook and Mac Mini - turns out I just hate Windows 11 even more ;D
Time will tell. I am on my second work iPhone. It's easier to use my personal Sony phone for pretty much everything except for a couple of very specific Apps that work simply won't allow access to from personal devices. And I deeply resent the fact that my work Office 365 account trumps my personal one on my personal phone. But that's a fight for another day.

Unrelated to digital ids, and has been going on since the previous government.

The US and EU have tried to enforce similar, and when they legally have to provide such access, Apple remove access to that feature in that region.  Hence, and it pains me to say, Apple are most likely one of the good guys in that respected.
