Airbag light on after seat change
« on: 16 March 2026, 21:17:25 »

I put in a pair of Sport front seats in  my 2002 Omega for more comfort.

When starting up after the change the Airbag light is on.

I saw when I did a Google search that the Airbags can be connected with the VIN and they need to match. Is that true for Omega's.

I didn't disconnect the battery when I did the change and I now realize that I should.

Will it reset itself if I disconnect the battery for 30 minutes?

Well disconnecting the battery didn't help. Light is still on.

I think I need a Tech-2

I would imagine that they're cheap enough and easy enough to get hold of to justify the purchase cost now :-\

I got airbag light on with my V6, there was a malfucntion code in the error memory, but managed to clear it away with OP COM. Software can be found free and the cable cost about 20 euros.

Right. Disconnecting the battery will do nothing to help.

Are they the right era seats for your car - eras being PFL, MFL and FL.  Seats are totally interchangeable between eras - see Info/Mtce sections of this site.

Lastly, if they are the right seats, was the ignition turned on whilst the airbags were unplugged? If so, the codes will need clearing from the SRS ECU and all should be good.  If light comes back on, then the SRS codes will need to be read to diagnose a genuine fault you have....

No silly VIN programming or any such tosh.

OK I finally got hold of a Code Reader unit (Chinese OP com) and it only seems to run on Windows 7. I solved that with a Virtual Machine that runs Win 7.

Got it hooked up and got the error codes from the Airbag unit.

It says that 35 Driver Pretensioner Circuit High Resistance

I guess I have to check the connections to that one

Was it a current code, or would it clear?

I ask because airbag lights will stay on even if the fault has gone.

If it won't clear, then yes, out with the meter :y. Can't remember approx resistance, got it in my head they should be around 6-7ohms.  Look at live data (from memory "Measuring Blocks" on that crappy software) and see what other side is reading, as that will be a good clue :)

I tried to clear the code but it came on after a short moment.

Also turned off ignition and it was the same after I turned on the ignition.

I have to lift out the seat and check the connections and compare with the old seat.

Found a Youtube movie that showed that the resistance should be between 2 and 3 Ohm (if I remember correct) for the Pretensioner.

I'll be back with more info later

Thanks

Had time to look at this and found that one of the cables from the seat wasn't properly inserted in to the socket.

Now the light is not on, it was simple...

My excuse is that it is very tight where this connector is placed and this one is on the underside closest to the floor.

Thanks!
