Safari Raid Omega anyone?
« on: 31 May 2026, 12:41:02 »

Yesterday I started tyre tests for my safari inspired project. Currently 1.5" suspension lift on rear axle. I already have the hardware for front 1.5" lift and extra half inch for the rear.
I have tested Michelin 195/80r15 on MB W202 ET31 steel wheel.
McPherson strut clearance is minimum. Next week I will receive a pair of Yokohama G015 in 205/70r15 size. I will test them in Opel ET33 alloys.
Now searching for a Mitsubishi V70 locking rear diff. I have a set of Omega halfshafts and rear cradle for a prototype build.
AI is helping me deciding the colo scheme ;-)

Yes, 205/70r15 is the way to go! Big enough for off road (same size used by 1984 Dakar winning Porsche), but small enough for clearance on front suspension, even with snow/mud chains
I'm right now in a 500km test trip. Half of it has been done using all the gears of the r25 gearbox. Second half of the trip will avoid 5th gear, emulating that way a shorter diff ratio. It's too tall geared right now with 3.45 and 205/70r15.
