Boris undoubtedly made a mess of it when he negotiated his Brexit deal, which is now the cause of the problems there. Although to be fair, Treasonous May left him a very poor hand to play with.

That mess was inevitably predictable long before we voted on it.  But all the mainstream media cared about was this £348m a day going into the NHS, and the number of (illegal) migrants crossing the Channel that somehow Brexit would magically fix...   ...I think the latter massively impacted the way people voted.

I'd loved to have been a fly on the wall when Boris met Varadkar at some stately home in Cheshire.  He went in saying there may have to be some checks on the border with the Republic, and came out saying that they'd done a fantastic deal to put the border down the Irish Sea!     

As to a united Ireland, the left wing commentariat seems to assume that the people of the Republic of Ireland are keen on it, but every Irish person I've ever spoke to about it, don't want it. I'm sure the Republic's politicians want to do it, especially in their term so they can go down in history, but they have to get it past the people in a referendum first.   

Given there apparently can't be a border between Ireland and Northern Ireland, ultimately Ireland has to be unified, either wholly inside or wholly outside of the UK.

I'm sure even Uncle Albs stated around the time of Brexit that he would happily see NI leave the UK and become part of Ireland

I very much doubt I said that. 
Or if I did I was pissed as a mattress. 

By the way, there was never a border worth speaking of between the two countries in Ireland. It was never much of an issue, but mischief makers made it into a very big issue during the Brexit arguments.

Anyhoo..................Trump is the first Orange man in history to call for a United Ireland.
