I'm back!!
« on: 22 September 2008, 02:20:16 »

Know I'm fairly new on here, but I'm back after my hols!
Covered about 3k miles going to the South of France and into Spain. The exhaust started to blow on the way to Dover, but as its a wiesel the noise just blends in, the mudflaps are a few cm's shorter on the back now, Damien the random self accelerating cruise control needs taming, and Dora the explorer (tomtom) had a few senior moments forgeting what country we were in!

Few pics...

Millau Bridge

Lloret De Mar

On the journey home, 1 x Omega + bootfull of wine & Beer = slammed and 1k+ miles of scraping mudflaps and sparking towbar!

And just to be out of keeping with the cleaning of the cars on hols, the fly count looks like this, I may clean it before the York meet at the weekend!

Nope, it just decides randomly that it doesnt want to cruise at 70ish mph and 95mph is a much more reasonable figure! The few times it did it was after a steady incline, when it reached the brow it'd accelerate as hard as it could to 95 and then sit there all day long, it isnt a problem tho, just means I get where I'm going faster!

You're lucky the gendarmes didn't notice! Sounds like the throttle's sticking open after it's been climbing. OK, I know it doesn't have a throttle as such, but you know what I mean.

Ah, and I bet yours is not chipped...

The BMW cruise on these doesn't work as well as a DBW unit should.

Did you adjust the cruise setting on the incline, as its possible that it never reached the desired speed until the incline stopped, when it could get to required speed.

Remember, the non chipped Omega TDs are detuned significantly so as not to destroy the crap AR25 that was fitted.

Nope its not chipped, its on the list of things to do tho! It doesnt do it very often, and its easilly controlable when it does so I can live with it.. and use the excuse to push the chipping up the list!

Most cruise controls I've come across drop out if they can't maintain the set speed rather than accelerate unexpectedly. Haven't found a steep enough hill to try that out on the 3.2. :-X

The TD one ain't that clever, despite being DBW.  The manual cable on in MV6 is much better at maintaining a set speed - the diesel tends to let it drop uphill, and speed too much downhill.

Yep mines a manual.
Compared to other cars I've had with cruise its not the best around, but it did make the drive a lot easier. Think its maybe just a bit slow responding, it accelerates up the hill, then doesnt respond in time for any leveling out or the brow, it was at its worst in the hills (read as mountains!) where its probably not best suited.

I keep reading about them, I really need to ask who to go to and who to see and how to get it fitted, is it someone thats near you? I seem to remember asking my brother if I could stay at his house if I came down there to get it done (he lives in Stony Stratford)

Pretty certain the 21x ECUs fitted to earlier Omegas are all socketed, so contact either me or Omegatoy (who himself has a 21x series ECU in his, so can comment on performance) who can get the chip guy to contact you directly.
