and an extra 117,000 out of heathrow
The CAA are trying to foist some pretty nasty legislation on the private flying community at the moment and one of their justifications is that the government have told them to plan for air traffic in the UK to
double in the next decade.

When trying to respond to their
consultation I wondered how this sits with their commitments to the environment, and the fact that they are always beating up motorists over CO
2 emissions. I can't remember the exact figures but, IIRC, an airliner emits the equivalent of about 200g/km CO
2 per passenger.
So, jumping on a plane to a meeting in New York is roughly equivalent to jumping in a V6 Omega and driving 5,000 miles.
Four Months motoring for the average driver in an above average car, and that's for one passenger to attend one meeting. And some people do that once a week.

Remember, that's an Omega with a single person in it. Put a passenger in it and you halve the emissions.
However, when you think about it, when you're on a plane you're being looked after by Nanny state's rules and regs. You're being fed the right number of calories of vegan/veggie/halal food. You're getting a taste of alcohol, but not too much. You're unable to decide your own direction and speed. Just like sitting on a bus, there's no chance of us using our own common sense, making decisions for ourselves or being an individual. So bu66er the environment. We know what the real agenda is.
