Wife went to the sorting office some time ago.. had a note from the postman re large item... girl behind counter looked at the note, went in the back and got the package... then shred the note to pieces and chucked it in a large bin.... wife said where's the other package?... girl said what other package?.. wife said the note said 'items: 2', you only gave me one... girl sad sorry can't locate second package without the note, and I am not looking in the bin for the pieces... wife said so what's now?... girl said file a lost item report... wife wanted to <expletive, make of if it what you will> her... but the place looks like Fort Knox, all barred-up with mesh wire and CCTV... wife said now I understand why... we never got the second package.... and the sad bit is that it is a true story  :'(

Two days ago we got a little card through the door saying 'Sorry you weren't in, we've left the package in a SAFE place on your property : '.  After I managed to translate the blue scrawl/hyroglyphics to 'Under Blue Bin' I went and had a look.  Bin seemed to be pulled slightly away from the wall, so I looked behind it - nothing.  Tilted it back and there was a large flat cardboard envelope on the deck containing photographs of the little one.

We'd been away on holiday.  It has p*ssed it down for the two days we weren't there.  Photographs ruined.   >:(

And another one - and this one I thought was unbelievable.

I ordered an air compressor - 50l 2.5hp job, so not particularly light.  It's way over 25kg.  It had 'This requires a 2 man lift' written on every side of the box.  The DHL driver appeared outside the house when I wasn't home.  My missus, with baby on hip, answered the door.  DHL man struggled to lift it himself, got it halfway down the drive and dumped it.  Told her that she'd have to manage it herself, turned round, jumped in his van and buggered off.

Why do they even bother putting boxes on wagons that can't be delivered safely by one driver?  And abandoning a delivery halfway up a drive...

We have this problem all the time.... when we ship heavy kit, the driver turns-up on the customer site, and then refuses to unload as they have no forklift. takes the delivery back and two days later it comes back on a truck with a forklift. Odd.

Also, we had a delivery to a customer of several boxes packed on a palette, the drives said he can't take the palette off the van without a forklift due to H&S. Customer suggested he undo the bundle and take the boxes off one by one instead of trying to get the entire palette off in one go. Driver said he is not allowed to open/undo the boxes. Customer offered to climb in the van and undo the boxes himself. Driver said sorry mate you are not allowed in the van. So the palette went back with the van... nuts.

I once helped a guy out who used to import pottery from Spain, which he kept in some outhouses on his property near Bristol. On one occasion a delivery driver arrived but refused to reverse his lorry down this chaps driveway, citing that it was not a public highway and if there was any problem he may not be insured.

We had to unload the entire container by hand and carry everything 80 or so yards. I can't remember ever being more knackered than at the end of that day.

I was expecting a bit of kit from a customer a couple of weeks ago. What turned up was not what I was expecting, and the paperwork suggested it was supposed to be going to Vilnius, not Hampshire.

Courier had swapped the labels on the 2 boxes. Guess where my box was?

Courier returned to collect package, which was on a pallet, exactly as it had been delivered. "Can't accept that. It's not securely packaged". >:(

Go mad with the packing tape and try again next day... Have I got a customs declaration? er.. Nope. Nothing to do with me. So told them to return it to customer in the UK. Finally get shot of the rather thing.

A week later, the package I'm supposed to receive arrives from Vilnius - with £560 to pay! :o Reject it saying customer was responsible for shipping it to us and it's between them and the courier as to who's responsible. Package turns up a couple of days later and is dropped off.

Fast forward another week and a bill for £560 arrives. Courier gets told in no uncertain terms into which orifice he can ram that. >:(

Was eating my breakfast the other Saturday and heard the post come through letterbox. Finished my cereals and got up to collect post and noticed a card "Sorry you weren't in."
The dining room door is 3 feet away from the front door and the postie neither knocked, or rang the bell, which I checked and it was still working!
