Ok, long story short - I can't find the wheel locking key, or the security number to replace it.

So, I need to use other methods of removal.

I've seen kits on ebay to remove these, but they are very expensive.

The real blessing I have on my side, is that the car has steels fitted, and therefore the entire end of the stud is accessible, and not recessed into an alloy.

I fancy my chances at getting them out - but the biggest problem I have is that they have an outer sheath which just turns on the head of the bolt - preventing the bolt from turning.

I'm thinking about possibly angle-grinding this off, and I reckon I could get something on there then.

Has anyone else any experience of removing these?

when I got the V6 I had to get them off as I was driving to Scotland the next day and didn't want to chance it, The place I used used a centre punch and 2lb hammer to shatter the ring that spins round the actual nut, once the ring was removed a socket was then forced on with the 2lb hammer to unbolt the nut - process  took about 5 minutes per corner

I've seen this done too; it definitely works. Very effective and didn't damage the alloys either

I'm surprised it doesn't knacker the Centre punch, rather than damage the locking ring

I've just bought a nice meaty new angle grinder... I shall use that to cut the outer rings off, and then drive a socket on there

Have you had the key since you were here last? 'cos I know the wrench we were using is in my garage still. I'll go and have a look if the key is with it.

WIM used it to fit the tyres, after I left your place.

Come to think of it - I wonder if they remembered to hand it back

They are usually pretty good and make a point of handing it back to you..... they've been down that route before!!!!

Take it to a local tyre fitter place - when I was a fleet manager our local place had a selection of spare locking wheel nut adaptors as people often hide the locking nut/key and forget to tell them where it is OR they can use their expert know how to get them off without the adaptor - will only cost you a drink I am sure
