So my MOT is due for the end of the month and I get the Omega serviced at the same time.

Having read enough about oil on OOF, it's about time I took a stand and provided my own oil (the Vx semi-synth stuff) rather than having Mobil-1 shoved in instead.

At the same time I'm now well aware that money can be saved with a TC card, so is it worth purchasing the oil, and other things that are used as part of the service, and handing them over to save paying the retail price?

For example the following three parts appear on each service:

Element filter - 9192426
O-ring - 90528145
Washer fluid - 93160549

I also buy new wipers each year (93177182/3) and I assume these would be TC items too.  My battery is now six years old so it's probably time for a new one - again is this a TC item?.  Which one would I require as the current one is a 19003276 - haven't looked under the bonnet yet to check the amps on it.  Oh, and it's probably time for a brake fluid change and to change the batteries in the keys...

So, is there anyone out there who can help me with organising these items on TC, and would the Vx stealer take exception to me providing them too?  Alternatively as I'm a long standing customer could I not ask to be charged TC prices from the outset?

The dealers have a habit of charging retail prices on parts used in service.

You will have to speak to your dealer if they are prepared to service it using parts provided at TC prices.

As an alternative, there is always Masterfit fixed price servicing - you still get the dealer stamp, same job done, only its cheaper.

So there are different types of servicing available at a Vx stealer then.  What would you get if you just ask for a service - Masterfit fixed price or whatever alternative there is?

A dealer service will be expensive, a Masterfit service will be less expensive.  Same people using same equipment/tools/parts.

Right.  Another thing to add to the list of the things to remember.  Will have to ask when I book the car in which type I am getting.

The outfit is a Masterfit service operation so I could be hopeful in getting the potentially cheaper fixed price servicing.  Thinking about it all the invoices show a fixed price for the service...

Around here, the dealers tend to have up Masterfit fixed price lists, with v6 being just under £100.  Last Vauxhall 'major' service I had done (when I came off bike so around 4yrs ago) was £250ish...

£100, that ain't too bad. Any idea what that covers, is it the usual, oil/filter, brake fluid changes etc?

Just double check its a Masterfit price for servicing beforehand.

What i have done for a neighbour before, who drives a veccyC, is buy the parts on TC, walk over to the service desk, dump the parts down and ask them to fit them. They dont like it much coz they loose the profits on the parts full retail price, but never been refused.  :y

In fact the 1st time i did it, the service blokey said to me, 'You carnt do that' and the parts guy (who's desk was right next door) piped up 'I think he's already done it' with a big grin on his face  ;D
Service dept did fit the parts  ;D
