Right - update

I re-seated the connector on the ignition amplifier - and it fired up without hesitation.

The leads and plugs look old, so I've got new ones to fit in a mo

That would not cover the fuel cost of getting it to you....

That would not cover the fuel cost of getting it to you....

Don't worry about the fuel :) £200 for a spare and repair just about running RR is about right :y

It only did it after the starting issue, never before, so I guess the timing wouldn't have changed.

The plug/lead change sorted it though Broocie  :y

I can only put the original non starting down to a poor connection to the ignition amplifier caused by the nasty weather - it roared into life as soon as I re-seated the connector!

That's the great thing about these engines, they're generally nice and simple  :y

Edit to add - I would have checked the timing while I was at it - if I hadn't have stood on the strobe and broke it  :-[

TBH strobe's are useless on these... The timing marks on the case have been known to be up to 6 degrees out :o :o ::) ::)

TBH strobe's are useless on these... The timing marks on the case have been known to be up to 6 degrees out :o :o ::) ::)

And the chain will be loose and stretched to the point where it will dance around like Loo Knee on a dance floor
