Think I've found the solution, if I disable Automatic Updates, and click on Updates, it updates OK.

Seems to be a problem with Auto Updates.

Thanks for your help.

I could be wrong, but ins't one of the differences between the Free version and the non free one, Auto Updates.?

No. both versions have auto update feature. As far as I remember you get faster server when on full version which never made any difference.

Got the free version running on my Laptop as a temp. measure.

Every time I try to do an update, I get 'General Error'.

If I unistall then re-install, it's OK for about 3 updates, then I have to repeat the process.

Im a big fan of AVG, however tend to use another freebie now, SuperAntiSpyware a lot better and quicker.

You can also get McAfee ver 8 free of the Net, just means you have to do manual updates.
Isn't that an AntiSpyware not an AntiVirus software?
Correct.

It does try to convince you that it covers everything. But it doesn't.

A free antivirus package and a free firewall as well will cover an awful lot more of your vulnerability.

All that is no good if you don't keep your software patched and up to date.

I'm using :
1. AVG
2. Comodo Firewall (free)
3. Ad Aware (from time to time)
4. SpyBoot Search and Destroy (from time to time)
5. Antivir scanning once avery month or so - www.bitdefender.com http://www.mks.com.pl/ etc.

+ all new updates.

That's more than enough to prevent normal user.

I actually like Widows Defender and would add it to your list. It is free and seems to be pretty effective at stopping non virus attacks like browser hijacks.

Also running on mine...
Windows login with password.
Firefox 3.0.6 with Noscript add on.
Software updated religiously.

Unlike you, I still don't think it's enough and know that there are ways in that I don't know about. My job is to reduce the number of them to the minimum possible.
