I dont personally use text speak but i would be pretty angry to be called either gay or stupid to be honest........

If i was called either of these in a Pub i would smack the person about, so i wouldn't be happy with it on here.....

Do I detect some double standards floating around ...  ??

It's fine to take the mick about "gay and stupid blue lights" but the same words "gay and stupid" can't be used about spelling and text speak ???

One of the main comments is that this is a place where banter and micky taking is allowed, and common, it is part of the character of OOF ... along with post count culls, innuendo, NWS pictures, rude (some would say crude) jokes, etc etc ..

But suddenly a big furore because the rules are being emphasised in a way you don't like ???

Over sensitive or political correctness gone mad ??? you decide ..

For me .. Admins work hard .. if they do things differently and I/we/you don't like it ... why throw teddy out of the cot ? ... there's a whole big world of reality outside the window .. take a look...  far worse is said and done on radio/TV every day.

To get back on thread, I personally think that GenChat serves the purpose for discussing any other cars/computers/plumbing/government etc without creating a seperate section for it.

Its the OMEGA owners forum.  If and when the number of available Omegas reduces to such an extent that OOF becomes untenable, no doubt it will transmogrify into something else for a similar purpose.

Bit like Top gear really....  Originally a programme discussing cars and how they apply to Joe and Josephine Public.  Its now a launchpad for three 'entertainers' who use assorted high powered, high priced vehicles for entertainment rather than the information of 99.9% of potential buyers....

As to the text speak thing, its getting discussed elswhere.  No need to populate another thread with the same discussion...

No Entwood its not double standards......refering to blue lights is not the same in any way shape or form to being called gay and stupid...

Lights are not people and that is reference to something that in other people's opinion may look gay and/or stupid.....

The spelling errors are calling someone personally gay and stupid,
Thats what i dont like about it,dont disagree the sensoring should be in place, just dont agree with the comments

And its certainly nothing to do with political correctness or over sensitive....doesn't matter if you call me gay, stupid, idiot or various swear words its not acceptable in my book....like i said previously if you called my anything offensive in the pub i'd give you a damm hard slapping

I think the odd post in general chat should be permitted but i would not endorse a separate section. We all encounter problems with non omega cars and for this purpose i feel it can be covered in general chat.

I just feel if you opened it up more it would end in a dilution of what this site should be targeted at - first and foremostly omegas.

plenty of valid points on the whole, well, those that are on topic anyway.

Personally agree on all fronts to varying degrees. I just see an opportunity to extend the fantastic help on here, and apply it to members with other makes. I dont see people joining the forum just to post non omega help.

Yes General chat is enough, i feel another section would encourage "current members" where they may not have posted before.

Certainly there is no doubt, its not acceptable to distract the back bone of advise on omegas(admin basically) to another section.

However, weather there is demand? It would appear not.

Over all, a shame maybe? Could grow into something big. Weather big is good or bad..? Needs a wiser person than me to answer that one.

Wonder how  oof is doing on the member front versus other forums? Just a thought. Anyone ?

I have to look at many other Vauxhall related sites as part of another role I do elsewhere  :-X, and apart from the big established ones, the cross-model ones don't seem to do so well, either members or activity wise....

If there was another section then there would also be a place to post pics of cars.......

Why do i say that?

Well, why the hell do we have pictures of a Tigra in the gallery section????

Please dont take offence ann or nick, but this is a example of how members on here have other cars and interests in other cars and want to show them and share their experiences with others.....

But in this case, having OOF plates on it doesn't justify its presence in 'Vauxhall Omega Gallery'

..there's also some pictures of volvo's to chime in a bit late,
i can see both sides of the arguement..even if we dont have a proper section for other cars then there should be atleast somewhere for people to discuss other topics wether it's different marques of car or home and electrical as somebody suggested lol! anyway looks like it might just be in general chat!

just my 2p anyway, as people have said omegas arnt going to last forever and vx havn't replaced it yet but having gen chat/other marques section would give people ideas of similar and not so similar cars to have after(or aswell as for that matter)

*i edited pretty much all the middle section of my post out and couldnt be bothered to retype it all*
