I only ever drove busses part time to supplement my income, so worked for me over the years. Did some agency HGV work and earned very good money, as I did driving tippers for a while. but going back some years. Just got my licence back from DVLA following health problems, they said they were contacting my medics, my medics said thay had not heard anything from them ::) ::)

Cars require more energy to be built than they use in their lifetime.  To reduce overall energy consumption and thus carbon emmisions we should use vehicles for as long as possible.
Is this actually the case?  :-?

Ive been told that a Vauxhall garage near me has a government scheme thing at the moment that if you buy a brand new car, you get £1000 back for ANY car which you trade in...

The down side of this is the cars which are taken in part-x HAVE to be scrapped!  >:(

And there’s some STUPID people out there... Apparently, someone is buying a brand new Insignia I think, and their trading in 2003 plate TD Vectra with 80k on the clock... So they will get a grand for it, and a 2003 plate car has to be scrapped? How’s that good for the environment?

There’s an immaculate Y reg Astra 1.8 Parked up, been told it looked mint, very clean inside and out.... You've guessed it, its off to the sky too!  >:(

Last year the minister the minister for the enviroment came to our school to give some gay talk about the enviroment.

And as I was leaving the car park he was getting into his prius. Well I just had to smoke the tyres didn't I.  ;D ;D ;D

My mate double dared me anyway .

Yes that is true, if you consider all the energy required to dig the ore out of the groud, refine and smelt that ore into a material, transport it to the factory, cast, stamp or manufacture that material into a usable part, transport parts to assembly plant, assemble the parts into car, transport car to showroom.

Then after all this someone running an old car untill it can no longer be repaired is far more enviromentally friendly.

Add to this the scrapping of a car, if all metal then not to bad, but these hybrid cars are the worst possible offenders when it come to recycling, the batteres and motors are awfull to dismantle..

The real climate criminals are people in new cars I am afraid, regardless of fuel used.

Drive a big engined car and you're actually saving the environment by funding research through all the additional petrol & road tax you're paying...... ;)

Me - I've got 2 V6 lumps on my drive, both over 10 years old and used daily along with a 1978 1500 Triumph Spitfire which fills our close with soot everytime its started.  Pays your money, takes your choice.  The way the government is 'encouraging' people to drive new cars is criminal - the last thing folks need at the moment is a big car loan to add to their mortgage & credit card debts!!

I bet the Kia fella didn't mention the poverty stricken Koreans being worked to within an inch of their lives to produce his box of cack for a competitive price.......

Rant over.

Plus some of the new cars are producing incredible results.  Look at the new 3l diesel lump from Jaguar/Land Rover.  300hp, 40+ mpg, quiet and bmw/mercedes are panickingly trying to replicate this result!

The guy Mrs TheBoy gets a lift in every day has got a 3l XF diesel.  She really likes it, and say it goes like brown stuff off a spade.  She likes it that much, she is always borrowing it to pop up to Cov most days (he is happy for the miles to stack on it, as its a company car, and this years model is even better specced and cheaper!)
