Millionaire & the murder mansion
« on: 09 April 2009, 23:09:11 »

I was intrigued by this last year. I just couldn't believe that the Dad had done what had been suggested, that was before they found the bodies. As it turned out, he had actually done it. As a dad of 2, I find it impossible to put myself in the position of these men who flip & decide that they're going to take out everybody ... wife & daughter too.
According to his brother, he'd been worth £10.4 million the previous year, before it all turned to shit. Surely life couldn't have been that bad, even if he'd had to pay all his creditors and leave himself broke to do what he did.

As the song goes "moneys too tight to mention". Debt and all the worry that goes with it is an awful thing for most of us and puts a lot of strain on relationships but at the end of the day, like most of the things that we stress over (eg work!), you have to learn to take a step back and put it all in perspective ie what is the worst that can happen? in the scheme of things, what really matters? Health and those we love are more important. I know it sounds very "pat" and I'm as guilty as the next man of stressing over things because I cant get out of that particular box but its true. Stress is a killer on many levels and its very sad that this guy couldnt ask for the help that may have saved both him and his family :(

I can ( to a degree) sympathise with the guy getting so stressed out that he might take his own life, but why take the family with you???  My guess is that, in his warped judgement, he was trying to save them from the realisation and the pain that he was going through  :-/

And this wasn't just some spur of the moment "trigger pull" -- he put a lot of thought into it.

The bottom line is that he wasn't in his right mind --- and people can do drastic things when the mind becomes unhinged.

I just hope and pray that none of us ever finds ourselves in that position.

Well said HC, as I am sure this poor chap had just "gone over the edge" and could only see one solution to his woes. :'( :'(

Is this not symtomatic of our society today?  People seem much more obsessed with the materialistic, which in my view, is directly related to the culture of celebrity.

Care, consideration and respect for others have fallen by the wayside in the struggle to make a mark in this superficial society.

Position, standing or the trappings of wealth are no guarantee of happiness.  Personally, if I can make it through the night without getting up to visit the loo, then it's a result worth having.

I fear for the future.

I agree Zulu ( about the last bit too  :-[ ) . Possibly one of the better things to come out of a recession is that it tends to "level" people. If we are all in the broen stuff we tend to discuss it more and things like going down the pan and / or losing one's job becomes destigmatised --- therefore pressures are relieved and we start to see what's important ......... fingers crossed  :)
