Yeah, like that experiment that Channel 4 did a couple of years back to see if the plot would have worked. 60 kegs of dynamite, was it?

Enough to reduce the place to a crater. ;D

My plans

Increase pay*, allow them to employ one person at a fixed amount say 20,000 PA  for a secretary - valid expense

Supply appartments for each non London MP, decent size, but pay no rent and you get no expenses for a London place.

* Enough to be comfortable and afford a reasonable house in their constituancy, bl**dy TV presenters earn a lot more than an MP.

Food gardening house repairs come from the MPs wages.

This is a start, just remember we want capable people in.

As to employing members of your family - actually provided they do the job and are capable, why not?

If I was in that position I would not hesitate to use Sue as she would do a good job.

We desperately need capable people Martin but you're right - it's a start.

We shouldn't forget however that reform of the Westminster machinery should also considered  a priority.  If new procedures are laid out to monitor the behaviour of elected members then said procedures should be dealt with by officials who not only know what they're doing but who have also the will to exert their authority when necessary. :y

I think Westminster should be run as a company. MPs and whatever wives, assistants, etc. they decide to use would be employees receiving a defined salary and benefits package under PAYE and expenses must pass scrutiny and be signed off just as they would in any other company in the public or private sector.
