Alastair Campbell speaks...
« on: 16 June 2009, 23:26:16 »

"MPs detained under the Mental Health Act should not automatically lose their seats, Alastair Campbell has told MPs.

Campbell said that many MPs including members of Tony Blair's government had mental problems but were afraid to admit it in case it was used against them."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8102596.stm

 :o :o :o :o

Incidentally, no MP has ever been excluded from Parliament for mental health reasons, so why the fuss? Does he know something?  ::)

A little off-thread, but watch and weep.

He sold our gold at a 20-year low. Still, he says be bought euros, which have gone up in value. Only thing is, I understand that they actually halved in value against gold in the last five years!

Had he held on to the gold, we would have been around £8.3bn wealthier.  >:(

Nice one, Gordo!  ;)

Maybe he watched the youtube shambles and realised that Gormless is obviously away with the fairies and thought he better do something before the men in white coats arrive with the straitjacket. :D ;D

Yes, Zulu, but The Wall Street Journal reckons that GB was partly to blame for the crisis:

"Gordon Brown tolerated and even encouraged the formation of these bubbles [house price/personal debt] for several reasons..."

The problem, Zulu, is that, by his own confession he ducked out of something because he couldn't handle it. I have some sympathy - indeed quite a lot, and in most walks of life, it's no big deal. But, we are talking of posts which carry huge responsibilities. I would expect that the the inability to carry out tasks of national importance due to ill health should be a matter of concern to us all. A decision to go to war, for example, should only be taken by people who have sufficient mental resources to rationally examine the facts. If they fall short, they should not be in that post, IMHO.

....actually Nick I am at one with you on that, I didn't make my sarcasm clear enough on the post - I just couldn't believe the front on the de-facto Prime Minister when he came out with those remarks.

Irrespective of the bank's culpability the mess lies fairly and squarely with Downing Street.

...agreed but what else could you expect from this gathering of wide-boys.

There hasn't been much in the line of clear thought from this administration precisely because there seems to have been a disconnect with reality - for whatever reason.

Who was it who said "anybody who wants to be an MP should be barred from becoming one as they must be mentally derranged to want to be in the first place?"

I think it was some top political commentator like Jeremy Clarkson or similar! ;D ;D
