Latest bargain from Aldi
« on: 22 February 2007, 15:48:58 »

Just been in my local Aldi and this weeks bargain is a 4" angle grinder, 1020 Watt motor and 3 year warranty for only £8.99.  :y
Not an item I use regularly but at that price worth stashing in the tool shed for that odd job.
Remember though safety first, get yourself some goggles as well, they are much easier to replace than your eyesight.

Agreed.

The other day I saw some work men using one of those petrol powered grinders - no googles or ear defenders!  Madness.

As a safety rep I would go spare if my company didn't provide PPE for staff, so it would be rather hypocritical not to get myself some for home.

When I was a student, my landlord at the time was using an angle grinder which apparently "bounced" off something hard behind what he was working on and it ended up cutting right through his collar bone and almost taking his shoulder and arm off  :o Although it did get better, he still couldn't use that arm 6 months later. After hearing that and seeing him a while after I never want to go near an angle grinder! Not sure a 4" one would be quite as scary though...

Have to be a bloody good inverter. Inverters don't like inductive loads either, and often struggle to provide start up current for such devices....

I used mine to cut a hole for a cat flap in my garage door the first night I moved house.  Pitch black, just me and pretty orange sparks - and a lot of curtain twitching.  More power, ug , ug , ug  :y

The grinder sounds a good bargain. Very useful piece of kit. Got my last grinder from Lidl's and it is still doing good service. :y
