Can't view the video at the moment Nick as this box is running very slowly so am going to try and do something about it.

On the general obversation, technology employed by those who can think beyond the obvious was and always be the answer to many pressing problems.

It is technology that will address our current wide ranging difficulties not the wishful thinking of those who would have us retreat to the dark ages of living from the land, in the rather sinister way being suggested.

Sorry to hear of  your PC woes. You can just read about this at the Guido Fawkes blog:

Great invention Nick and will undoubtedly save lives but the only problem with this is if lives are saved in great numbers that would otherwise die from natures natural selection then sooner than later there won't be enough water or food for that matter to feed these people or millions of others :o.

There is going to have to be a lot more thought put into this than meets the eye in my opinion :(.

Yes, a thorney problem --- but I guess the same could be said for modern medicine!

If the technology was applied to that problem I am sure a way will be found -- far better than ploughing billions into the banks so that their executives can keep their helicopters flying!!!!

This has been bugging me. I cannot, in all sincerity, accept that letting people die unnecessarily and agonisingly from dysentry, polio, cholera, etc. can be either rational or, indeed acceptable. :(

Two points spring to mind: First, natural selection has nothing to with this. Whether it's an Asian tsunami, a flood, an earthquake, or even day-to-day living, it is morally unacceptable to say "Let them die, it'll help keep population down!"  Secondly, one reason why the number of children born per family in third world countries has been (and still is) so high, is the problem of high infant mortality. If third world countries had a better standard of living, the birth rate would go down naturally, as it has in the developed world.

So, there's nothing to think about, IMHO. This device should be made widely available throughout the world.  :y :y

totally agree with you on this nickbat - i don't care what the problem is, letting people die unnecessarily because it may be inconvenient can't be the answer

as far as the technology goes - its fairly simple - a good filter refined to the smallest of tolerances - i can't believe governments or armed forces haven't had this kind of technology for years though?

fair play to the guy it's embarrassing that there's humans on this planet, in the 21st Century, without access to clean water  - £20bn - Abramovich could write a cheque today for that amount (he can't buy players anyway :y)
