What a nightmare day
« on: 16 September 2009, 21:58:01 »

The plan was to pop over to Luton, 10 miles from me, meet Darth Bog Roll so he could give me an alternator and then return by late morning to fix the car. As DLK was no longer calling in at Luton but going straight down to London I thought it would be easier to drive down the A1m into London and meet him at the job he was doing :) Sounds simple ::) He planned to be there 10.30 ish so off I went before 9am to get there before him. A1m not bad, into London and then all went wrong. I had a map and a vague idea of where I was going, no sat nav :o Lets just say lots of traffic, road works, traffic lights, more traffic and then reality hit I had no idea where I was! hours of driving around gradually working my way through London and getting nearer to destination. Give DLK a text to find he is still miles away and running late too, I was quietly pleased ;) So rather than drive 5 more miles to end I decide to double back and meet him, leaving me closer to home. Well that all went wrong as DLK traffic cleared and mine go heavier and then after a muffled phone conversation I was on A40 while he was on A4 :o Change of direction and I was heading for A4 thinking I was ahead :) another phone call and agreed to wait at Tesco, shame we both waited at different ones :D :D :D my fault :-[ Sent DLK on to job as he was running so late and said id find him ;D ;D ;D ;D  another drive around our capital city and the fact I hadnt asked what the actual address was :o  a few more text/calls I finally get to detsination :y :y :y  Arrived to find DLK and another nice guy (sorry not sure who?) with heads under the bonnet. So Plan to arrive 10.30 ish we both got there early afternoon :o :o :o :o Real pity I couldnt stop and chat as DLK had to get on and I had to face the drive home >:( >:( What short time I was there it obvious DLK is a really nice guy  :y even if he did bring up, me being a little top heavy ;D ;D ;D ;D Going home wasnt too bad and at least now I had the alternator and knew where I was going :y  :'( In all, a very long day and I still have to fit alternatorit  ::) would have been cheaper and less hassle to get local guy to supply and fit but wheres the fun in that ;D ;D ;D hope tomorrow goes better as once Ive fixed the car, Im off to Yarmouth and back in one evening :D :D :D :D

That will be his fault,he has no sense of direction.Dont let him blame you. ::) ;D

I had a similar London experience last night.Set out at 1715 to go to Limehouse, should have taken 3 hours return,tops.M11 was blocked on the way there, got lost at Limehouse, ended up going through the Rotherhithe tunnel and then having to come back through it again.Eventually found the hotel I was looking for in Limehouse and dropped son of.Tried to set up idiotnav to direct me back to the A12 but it wouldnt work.Went the wrong way through the Blackwall tunnel, only realised 10 minutes later that I had been very near to where I needed to be so had to turn round and go back through it, but at least knew where I was.Got to the M11, it was raining so hard couldnt see a bloody thing -45mph.Got home at 2215,knackered and harrassed. Then found out that my Dad in Belfast (who had a mini stroke last week)had fallen over and was in an ambulance on the way to hospital with a suspected broken leg/hip - not nice for a frail 78 year old.
Turned out he was badly bruised and in agony but nothing broken. The day from hell really.Im getting too old for that kind of aggravation. :( ::)

I hope your dad is feeling better :-*
Each time I knew I was close but could not actually get to where I wanted, wembley stadium was a great landmark for me to work on and so was those annoying girls trying to clean my windscreen, I passed them 3 times ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Im used to just pulling over in a field or gateway but in London you have to drive 2 miles before you can find anywhere to turn round or stop to check map  :o

Wrong way through the Blackwall tunnel? I take it the lights of the oncoming traffic didn't phase you at all.  ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D

On a serious note, sorry to hear about your Dad. Hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.  :y

Same here, just caught sight off the top off the Hotel about a second before I realised I was going into the Rotherhith tunnel, and as you say you cant just pull over and stop to find your bearings, you have to do it while driving which isnt that easy in London,if your noy used to it. :y
Spoke to Dad tonight, hes old school,a bit of pain doesnt hurt etc,hes just annoyed that he wont be able to walk for a while. ::) :)
