Starting to smell a rat.

Since I've had my current Omega it has had a slight vibration that had all the symptoms of a worn DMF.
I had it changed for a new LUK jobbie, but the vibration was still there.
I put up with it until I had the car chipped, then the vibration increased dramatically, but the improvement in performance and fuel economy made me determined to find the cause of this vibration.
I've changed the slightly worn engine mounts, sensor injector, bought a used injection pump that came off a car with no issues, overhauled and upgraded my original injection pump (Top marks to the techie that did the job incedently. Economy is up by at least 2mpg and definately a little more power), but still had this chugging on a neutral or light throttle load.
I'd eliminated the DMF as I'd had it replaced, or so I thought.
I'm now starting to suspect the DMF was not actually replaced. I don't recall being shown the worn DMF or even noticing it when I collected the car.
It was done as a hobble by an ex-VX mechanic.

Anyone know a reasonably accurate way of telling if a DMF is worn without removing it from the car ?

I'll do the job myself this time but I don't want to spend time and money if it's not faulty, although I can't see what else it can be.   
If I do replace it and the chugging/vibration ceases and I find the DMF I remove is the O/E jobbie and not the LUK I supplied to be fitted, I'll be paying a visit to a certain person.
After two years of putting up with the problem, and the last few months of time and money spent on it...I am not going to be the most satisfied customer he's had.
On the other hand, if it has been changed..I'm gonna feel real bad about this.

Have you tried to grease the joints in the prop shaft??? Also what chip did you get?

Chip is from a reliable source. It was supplied by TB's "man that can", who has been very helpfull with this issue. Several on here have used this source and are very satisfied.

Vibration is there with my standard chip and increases dramatically with the full BMW spec chip. 
The reason I'm back to suspecting the DMF is that the vibration can also occur when stationary. A quick blip of the throttle eliminates it...then it returns.
I just want a smooth drive and to be able to re-fit the full power chip.  :(
