scuttle drains
« on: 04 March 2007, 06:14:29 »

i went round a friends house yesterday,to do some work on her car.repair a brokern brake pad sensor, fix the passenger vent her bf had broke.and fit some shiney new richbrook door pins(its a vectra gsi )
on the promise she cleaned my tank.
i finished messing with her car and got bored.thinking back to all the advice and the instructions on cleaning the drains i thought , i wonder where the one is in the passenger side(had already clened the drivers side one.
lifted the cover,got a torch out .

and..... i have now found why no one can find nessy , shes hiding in the lake in my car.

so after an hour of trying to poke around with a bit of wire,a unbent coat hanger, and my bendy grabber tool. from the top down,i resort to trying to clean the drain flap thing in the passenger wheel well.cleaned that out but still gungged up.
now i know this isnt the prescribed method of cleaning. but both my arms,(and hers) are to big to fit far enough into the scuttle to have a hands on dig around.

so the pressure washer was dragged back out of the gararge, and the rather nasty concrete cleaning attatchment was installed.

5 minutes of that aimed straight down the drain hole got it sorted.

now i know ive buggered the nice rubber thing from skuttle to engine bay to wheel well.but its clear now, and the nasty smell from inside my car has one :)

oh and when she saw what was left on her drive she was nearly sick :)

Cleaned your tank?  ;)

A very common problem that.  It's usual to poke a hose pipe or similar in to flush it out.
Sounds like you caught it before it overflowed into the cabin!  Well done!

Yeah mine was pretty bad too, took me about half an hour to clear it as the water was really muddy meaning I couldn't see what I was doing. Going to clear it out way more often.
