Renault F1 get suspended ban
« on: 21 September 2009, 16:47:22 »

A 2 year suspended ban for the Renault team and Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds receive bans from motorsport. Can't say it's any less than they deserve!

If you cheat at athletics or swimming, you are banned for years, Not suspended, just banned. Renault provide a lot of engines for other teams and, if they were banned, the sport would go tits up.
The whole thing is a sham and Renault knew that if they sacrificed a couple of scapegoats, purely to make them look contrite, they would be OK.

Briatore received an 'indefinite' ban. That could mean 10 years.....but more likely five minutes.

Now that I've started, I may as well finish. F1 is not a sport, it is a choreographed spectacle, much like Premiership football.
Sport is contested on a level playing field where the natural ability of the competitors is allowed to shine through.
F1 and Premiership football and a lot of other events are dominated by the teams with the biggest wallets, who can buy the best talent. Hardly 'sport'.

A couple of notes - no way could FIA ban Renault, as another major manufacturer leaving F1 would be yet another nail in the coffin.  Shame, F1 needs rebuilding from ground up.

Of course, no matter what, the FIA would have banned Briatore - he was one of the main players behind the breakaway, and you can't help feeling the timing is 'convenient' for FIA seeing as all teams have signed up now....

had FIA banned Briatore before the other teams signed up to FIA, I think the breakaway series would have happened...

If Renault and the other manufacturers pulled out of F1 it would imo be the best thing that could happen to it.It could go back to being a sport run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. :y
Would like to see an investigation into Alonsos part in all this,I reckon he,s a slimey tinker. ;)
