I use ipaq for satnav and music, phone for, well, phone, and Icom for bike-bike transceiver (or I did til it broke).

I cannot recommend autocom enough. Don't know current range, but ensure that its the vox activated type, not PTT buttons
And, yes, I'd tried all the bodges and shite to do it on the cheap. Doesn't work.

Does your tomtom pause music? When i tested it on my old crappy iPaq, the music continued in the background and voice instructions came in over the top?

Nope, but you set tomtom slightly louder than the music (which should be background on a bike anyway!)
