Wanted- Widescreen test card image
« on: 22 November 2009, 15:57:52 »

A (very) long-shot, but you never know!

I'm in need of a widescreen format "test card" to setup my TV.  It doesn't seem that such an image is displayed anymore (24hr TV etc).

I've several restrictions and it needs to come from a pattern generator plugged in on analogue or I can record it off freeview and reply via analogue (just the way the telly service menus seem to work).

- Having a bit of bother getting the linearity correct.  Any pointers useful.

I would try to make my own on a PC.  All you need is a regular grating that can be made with QBasic or a CAD package.  You would need composite video out as well.

I presume you have a CRT TV? 'cos beware some of those have non-linear anamorphic scans that stretch the wings while maintaining square pixels in the centre.  That's not true 16:9 mode though but that can catch you out.
In proper anamorphic mode a standard 4:3 testcard/grating should do.  You won't get square boxes but the rectangles should be the same width/height right across/down.

I thought I had a 16:9 testcard as a gif somewhere but I can only find a 4:3 at present.  It would require a PC anyway so the first suggestion is just as good if you have that.

It depends how resourceful you are I'm afraid.

After a known transmission I can record to playback, or a pattern geny to borrow.

Anything similar tx wise to do a better setup than I've got.

DVE as in phonebox/kiosk   >:( >:(

I saw the card mentioned in HD somewhere - I wonder if my measly setup can muster some bbc hd somehow (doubting ...)

Setup not too bad at the moment - might try fiddling again the the w/end - kinda reminds me of doing convergence.

May have to wait - father in hospital and the phone line is playing up big time (just when you need it most!).

DVE dvd - can't use.

So far I can only setup on analogue or recorded tv and replay (not reply as original - where's the 'modify' gone?) via it's analogue o/p - seems to work okay.

When I've fathomed out how to show such an image on the telly I'll burn disc off my pc card collections.
